This study session aims to provide you with the foundational knowledge and skills required to begin to safely and effectively obtain adult venous blood samples.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, you will be able to:
• Identify and discuss the key principles of safe phlebotomy
• Apply the knowledge of the anatomy of the arm and veins to safely obtain venous blood samples
• Demonstrate your skills on a simulator
All learners MUST have a nominated supervisor who will assess their practice and sign off their competency booklets
This half day training session covers the key principles of phlebotomy, including legal and professional considerations, basic anatomy and physiology, drawing technique, how to assemble and use the equipment, infection prevention and control, order of draw, labelling and documentation, and overcoming difficult veins.
