South East London Workforce Development Hub Shortlisted for HCP Education Programme/Provider of the Year Award
We are thrilled to announce that the South East London Workforce Development Hub has been shortlisted for the prestigious HCP Education Programme/Provider of the Year Award at the General Practice Awards 2024. This recognition highlights our Student Nurse Initiative Program, which is shaping the future of healthcare by supporting the next generation of nurses in primary care.
Innovation in Nursing Education
Over the past two years, the Workforce Development Hub has worked closely with the University of Greenwich to implement an innovative model for adult nursing students. Traditionally, primary care placements were an ad-hoc part of the nursing curriculum, but we flipped this approach. Now, student nurses gain primary care experience for two-thirds of their course, making it an integral part of their training.
The Hub’s nursing team has collaborated tirelessly with local practices and universities to create a robust and supportive learning environment. This includes the development of bespoke learning materials, tailored workbooks, and weekly teaching sessions that allow students to reflect on their practice.
Growing Impact
We’re proud to have hosted 24 nursing students to date, with an impressive 94% retention rate. Our first cohort of students is about to take up their posts in the South East London region—a testament to the effectiveness of the program and the strength of our partnerships.
Alison Cork, Lead for Practice Learning at the University of Greenwich, praised the program, saying, “The South East London Workforce Development Hub has been pivotal in creating a placement model that not only engages students but prepares them for a career in primary care. This innovation has strengthened our adult nursing courses and is producing nurses ready to excel in their roles.”(testimonial AC)
