This study session aims to provide you with the foundational knowledge and skills required to begin to safely and effectively obtain adult venous blood samples.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, you will be able to:

This half day training session covers the key principles of phlebotomy, including legal and professional considerations, basic anatomy and physiology, drawing technique, how to assemble and use the equipment, infection prevention and control, order of draw, labelling and documentation, and overcoming difficult veins.

Aspiring to Partnership - Practice Development

This training will equip your nurse with the fundamentals of teaching and supporting learners in practice. This will enhance the nurse's knowledge and will be a step towards becoming a nurse educator.This course has been rebuilt from the ground up, using the 2019 NMC's Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment. The course has been re-designed to be more engaging and interactive. It is a requirement that you have access to your camera and microphone for this session, to allow you to participate to the session as if it was a normal classroom environment. There will be quizzes throughout the course to assess learning.This is a 2 day course and both days must be attended in full and attendance will be tracked. The dates for this course can be found below -Day 1 - 27-November-25 (day 1 covers the history of SSSA, the new roles and how to give feedback. This is an interactive session which involves discussion, and it aims to give you the tools you need to be a Practice Supervisor.Day 2 - 28-November-25 (day 2 covers the next steps, signing off midpoint, final interviews, action plans and how to fail a student. It will equip you with the tools you need to be a Practice Assessor. The aims is for you to attend this course with the commitment to taking a student in the next 3-6 months)Completing this course will equip you with the skillset needed to support students. Those who complete this course will be allocated a student nurse placement to host. Once you have completed this course additional follow-up sessions and guidance will be available to further support you when you are hosting students.

Contraception Update

SSSA update for practice assessor(s) and practice supervisor(s) as part of Health Education England's process for the re-approval of educators and PCN and Practice Learning Environments, educators over a 4-5 year period.Following the SSSA update presentation, trained PA/PS nurses and nurse associates will provide evidence of peer review on an episode of teaching. This review will consist of a small group where each will present a 10-minute micro teaching session or a short case study on a chosen subject.The guidance and peer review update has been designed to facilitate a reflective process and enable a formative assessment for trainers.

The SELWDH “Diabetic&nbsp;Foot&nbsp;Check” training covers the basic principles of good&nbsp;foot&nbsp;care in diabetes and equips participants with the knowledge to provide diabetes&nbsp;foot&nbsp;care education to patients.
&nbsp;The training provides a comprehensive understanding of&nbsp;foot&nbsp;care in diabetes; participants will learn how to identify&nbsp;foot&nbsp;complications; understand their impact; and recognise the frequency and importance of&nbsp;foot&nbsp;checks in diabetes. It also covers the risk assessment process and the tools utilised in diabetes&nbsp;foot&nbsp;assessment. Participants will gain practical skills in performing a diabetes&nbsp;foot&nbsp;assessment independently using these tools.&nbsp;
&nbsp;The ‘Diabetic Foot Check’ training will be run in the SELWDH premises. The face-to-face training will be held as small, interactive groups (accommodating up to 12 people) including activities and a practical session.&nbsp;&nbsp;

As you are aware as a smear taker you need to do an update every three years. This is an essential session as it will ensure you are kept up to date with all the latest cytology information. It is important that you attend and please keep your cameras on throughout as this is a mandatory session

Cytology Update

Aim:
To introduce you to the models, strategies and approaches to health promotion and explore the health inequalities that currently exist.&nbsp; We then introduce you to the elements of the NHS Health Check (touching on the Vital 5 Mental Health Check) for patients.&nbsp; This will provide you with the knowledge and support to begin to undertake the NHS Health Check independently, understand the results and be able to give brief advice to your patients.

Learning outcomes:
By the end of the session you will:

<li>Be able to identify the reasons why these checks are offered.</li>
<li>Be familiar with the procedures and tools to undertake the NHS Health Check.</li>
<li>Understand the ways we can prevent and educate patients to protect them from the risk of disease.</li>
<li>Recognise the models and strategies used in health promotion.</li>
<li>Identify some of the health promotion strategies in relation to current health priorities.</li>
<li>Have had an opportunity to explore how the theories can be applied in practice.</li>
<li>Develop an awareness of factors that impact on the success of health promotion activities.</li>
<li>Understand what motivational interviewing and Making Every Contact Count is, and how these can be used to improve outcomes for patients.</li>
<li>Be prepared for a period of supervision in practice to become competent in undertaking the NHS Health check.</li>

Please Note: This session is not to be undertaken instead of the Vital 5 Check training if this is delivered in your practice;&nbsp; this course provides some additional learning to help you develop the confidence to have a brief conversation with your patient about their mental health whilst they are attending for their Health Check, and signpost if required.
